She has more than 24 years experience in the IT industry, ranging from hands-on technical, to high-level business management. She has installed and configured computing equipment and has managed business contracts in excess of $26 million dollars.
Introduced to Electronics and Communications by her father as a child, Charly obtained her amateur radio license at the age of 12. Charly continued to indulge her passion for all things tech and, when computers were introduced in high school (circa 1983) she participated in all the programming and computing classes she could.
Charly left school at the age of 16, studied an Associate Diploma of Electronic Engineering (part time) and began working full time in an Electronics Laboratory at the Australian National University. She completed her studies in 4 years and during that time was introduced to many different aspects of the electronics and communications industry – as well as being introduced to her first Intel based PC and MAC. Charly often quips that she was part of the IT Industry before it was known as IT.
After her first child was born in 1996, Charly dreamed of running her own business to give her the freedom to “be a Mum” and indulge her passion for IT and helping others. It took 15 years to realize that dream, and after walking away from a failed franchise business Charly started “Ask Charly Leetham, Your Online Business Implementation Expert”.
It was really the leaps in technology over that 15 years that allowed Charly to create a business helping people with their web presences and resolving IT issues. Some of Charly’s favorite techie tools within her business include WordPress (as a Content Management System, not just a blogging platform); Wishlist Member Plugin to create Membership Sites; Mailchimp and AWeber as Email Service Providers and TeamViewer and Log Me In to support her clients remotely.
As a result of her endeavours over the last four years, Charly has won the MCEI Women in Business Marketing Award 2010, been shortlisted for the Telstra Business Woman of the Year 2011 awards and awarded Best Entrepreneur – Service Businesses – Up to 100 Employees – Computer Services category in the 8th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business.
